Environmental Restoration
We build habitat for our native species. We do this by mimicking natural processes, but in a way that accelerates the reforestation process & gives our trees an unassailable advantage. We put the right species in the right place & then nurture them until they outgrow their competition.
And we do this well because we genuinely care about the end result.
Potting
We genetically source local plants from seed or seedlings to ensure that they will thrive in our project sites.
We then grow the seedlings on in our own nursery until they are big enough to be planted out.
Planting
We plant the right plants, in the right place. We use a variety of native species depending on the type of habitat being created & the access to water.
We use planting spacing designed to maximise their dominance over exotics & we plant in areas around waterways, where we can have knock-on downstream benefits.
Track Building
Public access is important to us on our project sites. Community involvement & buy-in is much more easily achieved when people can enjoy the result.
We build walking tracks through our project sites because when the surrounding community starts to enjoy our work they then see value in it.
Releasing & Maintenance
We maintain our plantings by controlling the growth of grasses & other exotics around them until our trees can out compete them.
Although on-going maintenance is required to keep walking tracks clear & safe, the reforestation efforts are almost completely self-sufficient after just five years.
