True New Zealand for Responsible Travellers

Educational Study Tours

Who are we?

Kuaka New Zealand was established in 2005. Previously the Director, Doug Farr, worked in educational travel for eleven years. Kuaka (NZ) specialises in social studies, geography and history. Our leaders are passionate educators and inspirational leaders. We collectively provide many years experience in the educational field.

 What do we do?

Our aim is to provide students - secondary and adult learners - with an in depth and hands-on knowledge of New Zealand’s physical and social geography and heritage. Our programmes are designed to be sustainable, allowing visitors to give something back to the local community and environment that they have visited. Kuaka New Zealand is committed to building strong, healthy communities through business practices that reflect unsurpassed environmental and social values. In recognition of this, Kuaka is a participant in the worldwide quality standard Green Globe Programme.

 What makes us relevant?

Our programmes are relevant to the needs of geography  and history  curricula. They can be off-the-shelf or tailor made according to the needs of the school or college.

What does Kuaka mean?

Our name, ‘Kuaka’ is the Maori name for the Godwit, a bird that travels between Alaska and the Bay of Plenty. The Godwit come to New Zealand to replenish and revitalise themselves before their long journey back to the northern hemisphere. In Maori culture, birds are considered to carry knowledge, and this bird is believed to be a bringer of positive messages. After experiencing a Kuaka New Zealand programme we trust that, like the Godwit, you will return home nourished, fulfilled and inspired with a deeper appreciation of New Zealand’s rich natural heritage.

We invite you to share these experiences with us!
